Orange + Yellow Rain Alerts Issued for Krishna Region as Depression Forms over Bay

Krishna / Gudivada, Andhra Pradesh — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts including Krishna, as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is forecast to intensify into a depression. 

According to the IMD, the system is expected to make landfall near the south Odisha – north Andhra coast by 27 September, bringing with it thunderstorms, gusty winds (up to 40–50 km/h), and intermittent downpours over coastal Andhra. In anticipation, districts including Krishna have already been placed under Yellow Alert (moderate risk) and some adjacent districts under Orange Alert (higher risk).

Local officials have been asked to activate disaster response teams, monitor drainage systems, and warn low-lying areas prone to flooding. Residents are advised to avoid nonessential outdoor travel, secure loose materials and be alert for lightning, gusty winds, and sudden water accumulation.
